My take on Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead focuses on the gameplay and collateral damage that is inflicted on two “minor” characters in Hamlet. By placing the world on a chessboard, Ros and Guil become pawns, metaphorically and literally. With the audience seated on both sides of the board, they too find themselves in the game.
